Everybody should know the risk factors of diabetes as this dieses is common around us. As I wrote in other article the diabetes are of two types, Type 1 diabetes and Type two diabetes. Therefore, I am mentioning here the Risk factors of both type. Researchers haven’t finds all reasons for both of these type yet but these are some known factors of Diabetes.




Risk factors of Type 1 diabetes

  • Genetic presence:

It is most probable that if you have a certain genes than you are at high risk of Type 1 diabetes.

  • Your Family History:

If your grand parents, parents or sibling have type 1 diabetes than there is chance that you will be having Type 1 diabetes.

  • Your Geographical location:

Researches also showed that there is an increasing tends as you are located away from the equator. People lived in Chile, Argentina South Africa, Finland and other such countries have higher risk of type 1 diabetes.

  • Your body at low level of Vitamin D:

Researchers have also found that low level of Vitamin D may also increase the risk of Type 1 diabetes because vitamin D founds to be protective against Type 1 diabetes.

  • Factors related to your diet:

There is also an increased risk that you will be counted in Type 1 diabetes which is related to your diet. Having nitrates in the food or drinking water may also increases the risk of type 1 diabetes and omega-3 fatty acids may gives protection from Type 1 diabetes.

  • Viral Risk:

Certain viruses may also be in risk factors for Type 1 diabetes, these viruses may destroy your islet cells. These viruses are Coxsackie, mumps, Epstein Barr and cytomegalovirus.

  • Factors when you born:

There are also some factors which may put you in Type 1 diabetes such as, on your birth if your mother was younger than 25 years or during pregnancy she had pre-eclampsia or you were born with respiratory infection.

Risk factors of Type 2 diabetes

  • Your inactive Lifestyle and Obesity:

Your inactive or sitting lifestyle may become vital factor for type 2 diabetes. This is how that if you have spent your major portion of a day in sitting regularly which lead you to obesity and if both occur with you then you are at high risk of Type 2 diabetes.

  • Junk and unhealthy Food:

Eating junk and unhealthy food regularly also leads your body to Type 2 diabetes. Having little fiber and too much carbohydrates and fats clears the way of Type 2 diabetes, if you control your diet then you can reduce the chance for Type 2 diabetes.

  • Your Family History:

This is same as Type 1 diabetes that if your grand parents, parents or sibling have type 2 diabetes than there is chance that you will be having Type 2 diabetes.

  • Your age factor:

This is also a fact that as your age increases your risk for Type 2 diabetes also increases. Researchers agreed that as age increases our pancreas become less efficient for insulin and our cells become more resistive to insulin than at the younger ages.

  • Your high Cholesterol level and Blood pressure:

Continuous high cholesterol level and blood pressure is a vital factor to get you in Type 2 diabetes. They are also responsible for your heart dieses because they are major components for metabolic syndrome. So beware and control your cholesterol level and blood pressure before you caught in Type 2 diabetes or heart disease.

  • Gestational diabetes:

If you have Gestational diabetes (diabetes in pregnancy) history than you have chance to be in Type 2 diabetes in future and with this your baby will also be at risk of Type 2 diabetes in his/her life.
