What are the common types of Breast cancer?

The most common types of breast caner are as follows,

  1. Ductal carcinoma in situ
  2. Lobular carcinoma in situ
  3. Infiltrating ductal carcinoma
  4. Infiltrating lobular carcinoma

Ductal Carcinoma in Situ:

Ductal Carcinoma in Situ is the common type of breast cancer. This type of breast cancer detected on mammogram. In mammogram it is detected as a microcalcification, the microcalcification is a small deposit of calcium in ducts of the breast. If it is detected on early stages, the rate of survival in five years for Ductal carcinoma in situ (DCIS) is approximately 100%. This rate will remain 100% if this has not spread in ducts to the fatty tissues.

Lobular Carcinoma in Situ:

Lobular Carcinoma in Situ is a condition of cancer in which the cancer is not spread from its initial development area. Lobular carcinoma (LCIS) is rapidly developed in cells in lobules of breast. The patients of LCIS are monitored after every four months by the physician. The physician performs regular breast examination with mammography and physician recommends preventive measures like prophylactic mastectomy and tamoxifen.

Infiltrating Ductal Carcinoma:

Infiltrating Ductal Carcinoma (IDC) which is also known as Invasive Ductal Carcinoma, begin in the ducts of the breast and infecting the wall of the milk ducts. After this it moves towards fatty tissues of the breast and other part of the body. According to statistics of Breast cancer it is the most common type of breast within 80% of breast cancer cases.

Infiltrating Lobular Carcinoma:

Infiltrating Lobular Carcinoma (LLC) is also known as Invasive Lobules Carcinoma. This type of breast cancer begins in the lobules (milk glands) of the breast and often metastatizes towards other part of the body, it takes share of about 15% in breast cancer cases.

There are six non-common types of breast caner present which are as follows,

  1. Mucinous carcinoma
  2. Tubular carcinoma
  3. Medullary carcinoma
  4. Inflammatory breast cancer
  5. Phylloides tumor
  6. Paget’s disease of the nipple

Mucinous Carcinoma:

Mucinous Carcinoma is also called as Colloid Carcinoma. This type of breast cancer is very rear which is formed by the mucus-producing cancer cells. Patients who have this type of breast cancer have better chance of diagnoses than patients with other common types of invasive carcinoma.

Tubular Carcinoma:

Tubular Carcinoma is a special type of breast cancer and rear one. In this infiltration of breast carcinoma occurs, this type is also having better diagnoses than other types. It shares approximately 2% in diagnoses of breast cancer.

Medullary Carcinoma:

Medullary Carcinoma is also an infiltration of breast cancer which occurs in boundary between normal tissues and tumor tissue with total share of 5% in breast cancer.

Inflammatory Breast Cancer:

Inflammatory Breast Cancer is appeared as inflamed breast with dimples and ridges which is caused due to blocking of lymph vessels in the skin by cancer cells. This is very fast growing cancer but still rear, approximately 1% of total breast cancer cases.

Phylloides Tumor:

Phylloides Tumor have two status, it either cancerous or non-cancerous. Phylloides tumor develops in the connecting tissues of the breast which is treated and removed by the surgical procedure. This is also a rear type of breast cancer, less than 12 women die with this breast cancer in United States each year.

Paget’s Disease of the Nipple:

Paget’s disease of the Nipple is the most rear type of breast cancer which begins in the ducts of milk and spreads in the skin of nipple and areola. This cancer makes nipples and areola skin red and crusted. If nipples changes are the only signs and no lump is felt then the prognosis is better.
